orang dusun australia

somethings just never fail to get your attention, piss you off and make you shake your head countless number of time. this is the story of a ulufied aussy bitch which caught my attention today by saying something really degrading, to the australian nation that is.

it was high table dinner today. high table dinners are formal sit down dinner where everyone wears their robes and have dinner with the administrators of the college. anyways, dinner was served and everybody was helping themselves with the delicious roast chicken and potato and beans. small conversations were going on and jokes were cracked and so on. i was sitting with my asian friends and we were joined by this really nice australian guy and these two austalian girls. we were all having a fairly decent conversations with each other. after some time, while i was talking to my malaysian pal james, one of the aussy chick asked me "hey priya where are you from again?", i told her that i am from malaysia and she proceeded to ask me " are you unusually dark for a malaysian?" you tell me how the fuck am i suppose to respond to that idiotic nonsensical question? i just abruptly said no and returned to my more civilized conversation with my fellow MALAYSIAN friend james. off course i had my friend judy from india trying to explain that my colour was because i am of sri lankan origin. seriously, i can't believe that they were having a conversation about my colour! i mean does colour even matter? this just shows you that some so called "civilised" nations aren't civilised at all. i mean the fucking american president did a good job portraying tht didnt he? sometimes people are so absorbed in their own lives they fail to realize global issues or even explore other cultures. (things to note melbourne is supposedly a multi racial city) australian newspapers are full with national news and literally no international news ok. even the ones that are there are so irrelevent. why talk about australians when some asians don't even know the difference between an indian and a malay. james was telling me that this singaporean chinese kept calling this indian boy who's name was skantha (but ppl call him skan) iskan. then james asked him why the hell was he calling skan tht and the boy replied oh isnt skan short for iskandar? isnt he malay? and ppl, skan looks indian from the tiniest hair on his head till his pinky toe. james told him no he's indian and the boy reply indian malay arent they the same. people here think just because we indian, chinese and malay ppl are malysians therefore we are malays. oh btw, another thing to add is, the indian community outside malaysian are highly specific where they are from ok. no joke. if you say you're indian, tht means you're from india or from indian descent. if you're sri lankan you're from sri lanka. so off course i was CORRECTED every half second. its madness k. anyways, i think i've vented enough. there everythings out and i feel much better.

feel free to think wht you want and leave your comments. thats it for now. definately will here from me soon. cheers!!

ha ha ha! yeah maybe.btw my aunt who lived in aussy for abt 25 yrs now said tht they could've been confused because all malays, chinese and indian say tht they're malaysian. but i don't buy it la. malaysian is just a nationality not a race. they're still damn ignorent!

er. no la, for these people skin colour isn't such a touchy topic as it is for people back here. remember this is a culture where they TAN themselves, not drown in busloads of fair and lovely like back here.. so maybe she meant it in a totally non confrontational, insulting way.

but their ignorance.. is typical of the brash western way. Not representative of their culture as a whole. And Navin, they HAVE a culture! All forms of civilisation do, just that it is widely different from ours.. doesnt mean its not there.. just like many other things in life. :)

Oh well. My twopenny's worth.
:D

oh ya, thanks for reminding me kai, havent asked prakash about "village" ppl yet...hmm...well, oh yeah the other day i was at uni and this indian girl and aussy chick were talking and the indian girl was telling the aussy chick abt our astronomical reading and culture. and the aussy chick was like, wow i wish i had a culture, wht is aussy culture anyway? an aussy admitted tht. says a lot to me. guess nav is right jen.

Dei. I really want to know now. Who are these mysterious villagers?? From Prakash's blog, to this, to Kailash's blog everyone seems to be yapping around about these YMCA-esque(lol my take on it) people.

Tell lar. I damn kepoh noe. :D

P/S: About the topic at hand.. Culture is a varied thing. Little or small it is there. Do not confine it by our own traditional boundaries. We are all different. Just as we have our own ignorant swines back here who are completely oblivious about our own Malaysian values and such, there are the same bunch in Australia. Maybe (or definately) more than us la. Oh well. Skin colour and hamburgers, Navin? Quite the knee jerk response na? Haha. Tolerance is the key people!! Tolerance! *waves Malaysian flag about*

(Dont ask where that from)
